1961 Cooper T-56 MKII

1961 Cooper T-56 MKII

Some would say Steve McQueen was even more passionate about auto racing than he was about acting, but he was able to weave his racing threads into his silver screen work, hence movies like “Bullitt” and “Le Mans”. This Cooper T-56 MKII was one of the members of his racing stable, having been purchased by the “King of Cool” in 1962 after befriending John Cooper, himself, and attending his racing school. McQueen raced the car on the street and the track, and in many cases, won. But he actually left the car behind for his mechanic to sell when his Hollywood bosses forced his hand to choose between movies and car racing. Long since then, the T-56 has been restored to period-correctness by Hardy Hall Restorations of Herefordshire, England, with a 1098cc BMC engine mated to a four-speed manual gearbox. The British Racing Green over Black T-56 is now up for sale, so you can truly grab a piece of racing history owned by a Hollywood legend.
