The Ferrari 250 GT California Spider is a legend, and it was built for the American market. The droptop grand tourer in long wheelbase form is considered to be one of the most beautiful Ferraris ever made. The Scaglietti-designed body with the long aluminum hood with a prominent scoop, sculpted fenders with triple vents, recessed headlights, and the ovular eggcrate grille evoked both elegance and power. Powerful it was with a big single overhead cam 3.0-liter V12 under the hood. The car also had three Weber 36 DCL3 carburetors, a four-speed manual transmission, and a sumptuous leather interior with a thin-rimmed wooden three-spoke steering wheel. It was the ultimate in sport and luxury for the times.
A mere 50 examples in this body style were ever made, so it is a rare vintage Ferrari, indeed. This one comes replete with the original manual, tool kit, and even the original factory papers. Perhaps most importantly, the car is Ferrari Classiche certified with a numbers-matching engine, gearbox, and rear axle. The car was meticulously restored in 2012 by Ferrari marque specialists. It just sold at auction on March 6th for an undisclosed price, but the expectation was north of $10 million. Wooh.
