Located on the Greek island of Serifos, the NCaved house is like nothing you’ve ever seen. Built into a rocky cliff, it avoids being buffeted by the strong north winds. Mold Architects drilled into the slope and installed a rectangular grid structure that actually conceals the huge interior spaces. It’s essentially a three-dimensional “chessboard” of solids and voids that makes up the three-levels separated into bedrooms, living rooms, and even a guest house with its own private entrance. There’s a huge deck and pool, as well. Front windows fully open to the east, while the interior rear windows frame indoor gardens. Ventilation is provided in front and rear, while energy-efficient glass panels and a planted flat roof make it properly bioclimatic. There’s extensive use of unpolished wood and stone, and there are untrammeled views of the sea that you’ll never grow tired of. It’s easily one of the most interesting architectural designs we’ve come across and about as private as one can hope for. We’re just trying to figure out where to park the damned car.
