Incorporating the natural world into urban environments has been one of the most important aspects of new constructions. Architects have added rooftop gardens or green roofs to nearly every new build in cities around the world. But, the One River North project from MAD Architects is among the most unique examples of this principle. Slated for construction in Denver’s River North District, this residential building will hold 187 apartments along with 8,000 square feet of retail space. A rooftop terrace will offer a pool, spa, and garden. But, the most eye-catching detail is the descending nature trail on the building’s facade. Trees and shrubs burst out from the “cracks” of this building, not unlike the Bosco Verticale in Milan. MAD Architects believes the project, which is the firm’s third project in the U.S. and its first rental project in North America, will be completed by 2023.
