The poster you see here started over a few beers. Designers Michael Buchino and BT Livermore wanted to create a print that addressed a modern subject but depicted it in a style reminiscent of WPA (Work Projects Administration) posters from the 1930s and 1940s. Not only did they want to recreate that style, but they wanted to do it all without the assistance of a computer, just like artists would have done back in the day. This was no easy task. After lots of playing around, the two artists settled on using rubylith, a two-ply film that you cut with an X-acto knife to create designs. After the painstaking process was complete, the talented designers emerged with this poster. Be Kind Online can be purchased on Etsy and you can read more about the process here.
