We thought Santiago Calatrava’s work was beautifully stark against most city skylines, but this amorphous “Sarcostyle” tower by Hayri Atak Architectural Design Studio changes everything. The renderings show a building that contrasts the straight lines of its surroundings with an organic biological look that’s both refreshing and a bit harrowing, kind of like an alien culture has infiltrated Manhattan. The parametric design involves curves, voids, ultra-smooth surfaces, and no apparent corners that give the tower a truly bold appearance. It also looks different from each side and also makes you wonder who’s going to clean the windows.
