Al Capone’s Estate and Heirlooms Are Heading to Auction

Al Capone’s Estate and Heirlooms Are Heading to Auction

Everyone knows Al Capone as the notorious gangster of Prohibition-era America. Few know the more intimate elements of the Capone family. Until know. Luxury auction house Witherell’s is presenting a collection of memorabilia from the Capone family. Titled ‘A Century of Notoriety: The Estate of Al Capone,’ this lot of vintage items portrays the domestic life of Al Capone, his wife Mae, and their family. Included in the collection are photographs, furniture, home decor, jewelry, and even firearms that belonged to Al and Sonny Capone. As Witherell’s notes, “This landmark event will no doubt go down as one of the most important celebrity auction’s in history.” Noteworthy items for curious collectors of Americana include a 1911 Colt .45 that is described as Al Capone’s “favorite,” a handwritten letter from Al to Sonny Capone from Alcatraz, and Al Capone’s Patek Philippe pocket watch with 90 single cut diamonds. Items from the lot range in starting price from $100 to $50,000 with final bids likely well exceeding those prices. The auction will open on October 8th at 6 PM with an in-person preview in Sacramento, CA on October 7th.
