A morphing shoe sounds like nanotech that hasn’t reached us yet, only Nike’s Adapt BB Basketball Shoe might prove otherwise because these kicks, touted as Nike’s most tested shoes in its history, are both digitally connected and possesses the ability to alter fit and shape while on your feet. The Adapt BB houses a special (and apparently, very small) motor and a gear train that senses the tension your activity needs and changes accordingly. Wearers can also make adjustments via the smartphone app or a button in the Flyknit portion of the shoe’s upper. The tech works to provide fitments that change based on activity transitions, and it makes complete sense. Players at rest can loosen the totally laceless shoes and then tighten up during game time. The revolutionary system is known as Nike’s new FitAdapt system and could make its way to other lines of footwear.
