On September 16, New Balance will team up with Carhartt WIP to release a capsule collection that’s deeply rooted in Americana. Inspired by “humble neighborhood gyms found across America”, we see a bygone perspective on traditional athletic wear with a decidedly rugged approach. From canvas jackets to collegiate-looking sweats, the basics in this collection act as elevated everyday essentials that really highlights the vision of Carhartt WIP’s singular vision.
The reimagined 990v1 is really the star of this collab, though, and highlights the marriage of these two titans in American menswear. Made from a mesh and hairy suede construction, the shoe keeps the traditional silhouette of the 990v1, but elevates it into a streetwear shoe outside of the gym. A palette of blues, greys, and whites gives this shoe a considerable coolness that, being so neutral, can pair with just about anything.
Carhartt WIP and New Balance show just how well two brands positioned at the top of their game can come together to continue to create something cop-worthy. While we may all be feeling a bit of collab fatigue these days; I say, if they’re as good as this collection, keep ‘em coming.
