Though we wouldn’t want anyone to recycle the rather rank and worn workout shoes we’ve had on our feet, adidas shows us the promise of a sustainable athletic shoe future. Its new Futurecraft Look project is not just made from 100% recyclable Thermoplastic Polyurethane, its goal is to be completely recyclable to make another pair of shoes. The brand is able to do this thanks to the total absence of glue, instead using heat and pressure to keep it all together. The Futurecraft Look’s name captures the objective well since the brand’s current 10 percent recylclable construction is but a fraction of what they hope to achieve in the not-too-distant future. The nearly all-white shoe has a contrasting red logo, debossed three-stripes on the body, and a heavily padded outsole that look ready to take on the miles. We hope to see adidas reach their goal, and we can’t wait for this to be the mainstream method of sneaker construction someday.
