Taking place in an dark alternate reality mid-80’s setting with Nixon serving a fifth term and where super heroes are forced into retirement, Watchmen explores a dark side of masked crusaders usually unseen in comics. Many of the characters seem to come right of the pages, especially Jackie Earle Haley’s disturbing performance of Rorschach who gets addition dialogue directly from the comics in this version. Whether or not you’ve seen the film (or read the comic for that matter) the Watchman Director’s Cut will impress you with a well developed story, extended flashbacks, and more violence.
