There are few places in New York State as captivating as Lake Placid. Located nearly 140 miles north of Albany deep in the Adirondack Mountains, Lake Placid makes for a remote getaway that’s best enjoyed with a stay at Mirror Lake Inn. The Location (and the Rooms)

Mirror Lake Inn is located in Lake Placid, which is frequently regarded as one of the most “Instagrammable” destinations in the country. The city is uniquely beautiful regardless of the time of year: While fall foliage is what attracts most visitors, those who can brave the cold Upstate New York winters are in for a real treat. Summer is prime if getting out on the water is your motive, and spring has moderate temperatures, typically ranging from 40 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit.

There are 124 rooms at Mirror Lake Inn, each one overlooking the pristine body of water on which the resort is directly situated. To really drive the picturesque factor home, the property, which is celebrating its 100th year in operation, is completely surrounded by the dramatic Adirondack Mountains.

The Spa

My visit to Mirror Lake Inn would have been a dream escape in any case, thanks to its rustic charm, but the expansive spa amenities really sealed the deal. A wide variety of treatments is offered, including but not limited to salt therapy, couples massage, and an MLI Seaweed body wrap. The indoor pool and hot tub alone added a special touch to my winter getaway. There’s also a fitness center that overlooks the lake and Adirondack mountains.

The Dining

Mirror Lake Inn is the only property in Lake Placid that combines Four Diamond lodging and dining, an acclaim held for 40 consecutive years. The View restaurant is the only AAA Four Diamond restaurant in Lake Placid, and features menu items that focus on the Adirondack terroir. For a more casual option, opt for The Cottage, with a plethora of sandwich and salad offerings.
