Grand Seiko Releases Its First Hand-Wound Movement in Half a Century

The latest release from Grand Seiko is a handsome, hand-wound high-beat movement dress watch

1

Grand Seiko has unveiled an elegant new dress watch boasting their first hand-wound high-beat movement in fifty years. The heart of this timepiece, the Caliber 9SA4, is a variation of the 9SA5 but with innovative tweaks including a click shaped like a wagtail, a nod to the local avian fauna near Grand Seiko’s Shizukuishi studio. This distinctive click moves as if pecking while the watch is wound, adding a delightful touch to the watch-winding ritual. Alongside a rearranged gear train and re-engineered components, the movement offers an impressive 80-hour power reserve. Encased within either a 38.6mm Brilliant Hard Titanium or a limited edition 18k rose-gold case, both versions showcase a textured dial inspired by the birch trees of northern Japan.

Available this August, the limited-edition gold model is restricted to just 80 pieces, making it an exceptionally exclusive timepiece. This new release combines Grand Seiko’s renowned craftsmanship with innovative design elements rooted in the rich natural landscape of Morioka. Whether you’re a watch enthusiast seeking a unique addition to your collection or simply appreciate meticulous craftsmanship, this new Grand Seiko dress watch promises both sophistication and a deep connection to Japanese heritage.
