Ferris Bueller’s 1985 Modena “Ferrari” California Spyder

Ferris Bueller’s 1985 Modena “Ferrari” California Spyder

Perhaps even more than Matthew Broderick himself, the near-priceless Ferrari 250 GT California that was shown taking a backward dive off Cameron’s Highland Park, Illinois home played a starring role. Of course, the car wasn’t the real deal even in driving scenes. Instead, four “stunt” cars were built by Modena Design & Development, of El Cajon, California, and a fifth engine-less fiberglass body was the version that went airborne. This one is one of the four that was powered by a fuel-injected 5-liter Ford V8 pulled from a Ford Mustang GT mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. It looks like the real deal, of course, and the winning bidder of the March Bonhams auction will pull off the forgery in true Ferris Bueller’s Day Off style.
