Whoever thought mad horsepower should only be allocated for supercars and massive SUVs never told Mercedes about it. Their new 2023 Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance bucks the trend by throwing down an 831-horsepower gauntlet. Power comes from the combination of a twin-turbo v8 and a 201-hp electric motor. The electric motor powers the rear wheels, but it can also be sent to the front wheels via the car’s advanced 4MATIC all-wheel drive system. 0-60 comes in a blistering 2.9 seconds, or as quick as track-only McLaren Senna supercar. The GT 53 S E Performance will top out at 197 mph. In terms of efficiency, don’t rank it up there with the Prius Prime. The 6.1 kWh onboard battery only gives the car 7 miles of all-electric range, or basically a single trip to and from your local grocery store. On the plus side, you can select three levels of brake regen. Level one feels like a traditional internal combustion brake setup, while level three allows for one-pedal driving, a huge plus in traffic. Dial the drive mode to “Race”, and the maximum dynamic driving experience gets delivered in all its face-warping, organ-slamming glory. Expect the 2023 Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance to sell sometime next year at a yet undisclosed price. This is the first vehicle in the Mercedes-AMG E Performance line, so expect even more kinda green, seriously potent madness to come.
