Most of our Zoom calls involve digital cheers, explaining gallery mode, trivia games and constantly telling family members to unmute themselves. The band Thao & The Get Down Stay Down decided to use the popular conferencing service to do something incredibly more creative–film a music video. The official music video for their new song “Phenom” has Thao starting a Zoom call with all of her bandmates that ultimately creates a Brady Bunch style grid of multiple screens that they use to create multiple different scenes that interact with one another. It hasn’t been out for that long yet, but we’re willing to say that the Thao & The Get Down Stay Down “Phenom” music video can already be considered COVID-19 zeitgeist art because it perfectly captures the state of the world right now. It’s also creative enough that we think they should entertain a name change to Thao & The Get Down Stay Home in the meantime?
