Swiss brand Ikepod has gotten a second lease on life under the leadership of new CEO Christian-Louis Col as of 2018. Ikepod’s minimalist watches became known for their unique, large diameter UFO/disc-shaped cases, and new ownership has ensured the ethos will remain. The Megapod Automatic is their boldest iteration yet with a large 46mm stainless steel case and three dial styles5, one of which has unique shrouded numerals for added mystique. The watches no longer have Swiss movements but transition to the use of Japanese Miyota automatic movements that are both reliable and more affordable than ETAs. The result is a drastic reduction in price from the originals, and the sub-$800 cost puts it in the ballpark of affordability. What you get is a modern timepiece that comes with a sapphire crystal, a movement with a 42-hour power reserve, and head-turning design. Their Kickstarter campaign is live now.
