There will come a day when the average residential home will have less of a negative effect on the environment. It will become de rigueur to build with recycled and sustainable materials and operate with off-the-grid energy. The zero-impact On Mountain Hut is a temporary residence that shows us what’s possible. Built by the makers of On athletic shoes and apparel, the shiny duplex uses solar panels, a rainwater filter, and eco-conscious/eco-friendly materials, and it also manages to look like a legitimate piece of the future. While it might not seem exactly posh, every aspect is thoughtfully practical, and its placement in the gorgeous Swiss Alps seems apropos. Once the hut is deconstructed, it will have left no waste and no evidence it was ever there.
