This piece of audio art sticks one of its eight legs into the arachnaphobe’s eye while still being gentle on the wallet. Designed and made by Yiwei Zhang, founder of a company called Machine Party, created more than just a metallic sculpture with a Bluetooth speaker for the arthropod’s abdomen. It’s actually a project that involves assembly for the buyer with the required tools included, as well as filling the role of an articulating (though sadly not remote controllable) toy. The strategic conglomeration of nuts, bolts, fasteners, springs, and myriad unidentifiable parts make up an ingenious spider that’s both inviting to touch and a bit menacing to the unprepared. The speaker itself supports Bluetooth 4.2 streaming audio from Bluetooth enabled smartphones, tablets, or PCs and can be removed and used separately for portability or to appease friends who have a predilection solely for furry creatures.
