Mango Street Lab is Daniel Inskeep and Rechel Gulotta, lifestyle and wedding photographers who split time between LA and Chicago while also producing some pretty incredible “photography tutorials that don’t waste your time.” In their latest video “It’s Not About the Gear” they shot with a cheap body and kit lenses to prove that a solid photography foundation and the ability to tell a story in your images is more important than your gear. They traded their $5,000 5D Mark IV setup to their friend Justin in favor of a Revel T5 with a kit lens, and then they all set out making magic in the same room with the same model. The end result is a collection of really great images with slight favor going to the professional photographers on the cheap gear over the amateur with the $5k setup (though his images were also great). Don’t let a lack of expensive gear prevent you from making art.
