Plenty of watches cost a lot, but there aren’t many you’d have to shell out seven figures for. But if you did happen to find $4 million sitting around, you’d be able to buy a yellow gold Oyster Paul Newman Daytona, one of only three known to exist. The sale happened at the Phillips Geneva Watch Auction where, only the day before, the most expensive Rolex in the world, the “Bao Dai,” was sold for just over $5 million. The Daytona was the subject of a protracted bidding war, eventually settling on a final sale price of $3,717,906. Colloquially, the watch is also known as “The Legend” and it’s easy to see how it got its nickname. With people willing to drop a couple million on it, it must really be something special.
