In the world of consumer level drones, DJI is a heavy hitter. If there’s another designer and manufacturer that comes close to their operation, we don’t know their name. And for DJI’s next release, they’re stepping things up into a more demanding market. Their Matrice 200 series drone is designed to meet every need heavy industry, surveying, or search and rescue can throw at it. It’s more than capable of flying in the rain, heats itself to enable sub-zero flight, and has enough redundancies built in that there’s pretty much no chance of the drone randomly crapping out on you. It can also keep you informed about any aircraft in its vicinity, which, incidentally, is a 7 km operational range, much farther than most available drones. The construction is also built for durability and stability, making it one of the heavier drones the company offers. Plus there are enough sensors, imaging options, and payload options that you could fly this thing with two blindfolds strapped over your face. Pricing hasn’t been released yet, so this could go either way. It might be way too expensive for the majority of the public, or it could be everyone’s new favorite personal cartography toy. We should be getting more information before the Matrice 200 series’ second quarter shipping date.
