Christo, the artist responsible for large scale projects like “The Gates” in Manhattan, recently unveiled his latest project to the public, and it literally lets you walk across a lake. “The Floating Piers” is a project years in the making for Italy’s Lake Iseo that combines 100,000 square meters of yellow fabric with felt and a modular dock made of 220,000 polyethylene cubes to create an interactive art installation that connects the town of Sulzano with the Island of Monte Isola and the Island of San Paolo. Board the fabric in Sulzano, walk across Lake Iseo to the Island Monte Isola and then head out to walk completely around the Island of San Paolo. The installation is mind-blowing, beautiful and freely open to the public (pending weather) until July 3rd.
