Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions is a late 19th century satirical novella that describes a two-dimensional world occupied by geometric figures. The entire thing is pretty trippy, which is probably why it—and not Inception, which is what you were all thinking—is the inspiration for Turkish artist and photographer Aydın Büyüktaş series of the same name. Flatland “sets the foundations of a dimension where a space of surprises creates a space that creates surprises.” In case the surreal landscapes that disappear from normal into vertical aren’t indication enough, Büyüktaş’ Flatland series is as trippy as the original work it’s inspired by. Stitched together from photos shot on the ground and aerially by drone, each image depicts a location in awe-inspiring, dreamlike detail.
