There are certain movies that are staples in every guy’s collection, City of God is not one of them. Whenever we mention the movie we are usually met with blank stares, clearly fake acknowledgment or—in one case—the question, “Is that the one with The Rock?” For some reason, despite being one of the most kick-ass, gritty movies ever, City of God rarely commands the shelf space that other titles do in the average guy’s entertainment unit. This is wrong. Now that the film that drops you in the violence-filled streets of the City of God in Rio de Janeiro is available on Blu-ray, it would be wise to pick it up or ask Santa (though we can’t guarantee your interest in street warfare won’t raise a few eyebrows up at the North Pole).
