We’ve been on a bit of a “based on a true story” kick around the office lately, and there’s no recent movie that we can think of that delivers better than 12 Years A Slave. Set in the pre-Civil War US, 12 Years a Slave tells the story of a free black man getting abducted and sold into slavery. The film is every bit as powerful as it is tragic–anchored by phenomenal performances by a rock star cast that includes: Fassbender, Pitt, Cumberbatch, Giamatti and, of course, Chiwetel Ejiofor. Like Schindler’s List and other movies of similar types, 12 Years is worth owning on physical media just so you can lend it to friends after you’ve watched it again yourself in hi-def.
