These Drink Ring Holders Are Made from Spent Beer Grains

The production of anything–beer included–results in a plethora of spent materials and wasted energy… regardless of how in-tune brands are with their production methods. Making beer inevitably results in the creation of spent grain that can be used for things like Beer Grain Granola Bars, making whiskey like what Cooper River Distillers are doing, and now, for the production of the most responsible drink holders that have ever been made. Named Trebodur–aka the “mabeerial”–this material is bound by the natural amount of proteins in brewers’ spent grains and is formed into three can holders for beer and other beverages that is 100% biodegradable, compostable and in no way messes up the environment it ends up in. “Due to its utterly natural origin, the material decays quickly, even on garden compost heaps. Furthermore, it is possible to add substances like minerals, ashes, or even plant seeds to the material to supply the soil,” according to the team behind the new packaging material. Say goodbye to single-use waste products and hello to the most innovative thing to happen to beer since barrel-aging.
