Ai Weiwei Limited-Edition ‘Bombs’ Print

Chinese contemporary artist and activist Ai Weiwei has been making waves and artistic statements for as long as we’ve been aware of him. While the middle finger sculpture he’s responsible for is one of the pieces he’s best known for, his latest, Bombs, is a 6-foot by 4-foot piece that’s sure to make as many waves as any piece he’s made before. Bombs is a large-scale piece that’s a compilation of 3D renderings of more than four dozen conventional weapons of mass destruction that run the gamut chronologically from a 1911 grenade to a 2019 guided nuclear missile. According to Sabine Eckmann, the William T. Kemper Director and Chief Curator of the Museum (where the piece was displayed), “The hyperrealistic images have a seductive physical beauty that belies their appalling and frightening truth.” Ai Weiwei’s Bomb prints are available exclusively at the Kemper Art Museum, and the run is a limited-edition of 500 pieces.
