Every week there are dozens of new and exciting pieces of gear. But are they actually worth buying? Trust the team at Cool Material to help you find the latest and greatest releases in a recurring column: What We’re Buying.
“I first discovered this shirt via their well-produced campaign video via Instagram. The Sabbia shirt is one of those pieces that’s perfect for just about any occasion – from weekend lounging to cocktails with friends to, as the video shows, hanging on a houseboat. What really intrigued me about this shirt was the pattern itself. It’s dyed from pomegranate skins and lotus roots in a tiger-stripe pattern, giving it an almost textural quality to it. Paired with horn buttons and I’m sold.
Libero is a brand I’m sure I’ll be coming back to more and more for key pieces like this one. And with a design philosophy that harkens to American classics with a decidedly European flair…well, I’m sure I’ll be pleasantly surprised with each new collection.” Buy: $275
“I needed a bigger bag for work that could also double for travel duties. Filson’s Ripstop Nylon Pullman turned out to be way bigger, way tougher, and way more versatile than I thought. The OD green fabric is incredibly thick and water-resistant, and it’s so big it can easily work for a carry-on bag or as an overnighter. The detachable shoulder strap and backpack straps are plenty thick and well-cushioned. Plus they have spring hinges. The Pullman also fully opens via the wraparound zipper, making for easy packing. I now try to think of things to toss inside just for the hell of it.” Buy: $250
“Despite being well aware of the fact that gardening is a fool’s errand because you spend far too much time, money, and energy to grow vegetables and herbs you could buy from the local store for pennies on the dollar, there’s something to be said for the catharsis and sense of accomplishment achieved by growing your own veggies and herbs. Unlike other big-box options, the Birdies Garden Products Modular Raised Garden Bed can be customized to your space, will last the better part of a lifetime, isn’t toxic to your future food and it’s available in a number of stylish colorways.” Buy: $190
“I was lucky enough to score a pair of the New Balance Made in UK 991s produced in collaboration with Aimé Leon Dore. The dad-fashion of New Balance sneakers has become fashionable recently and I’m sold on the chunky, retro aesthetics of these kicks. I got a pair in tan which will be perfect for the late summer/early fall days. The small Aimé Leon Dore detailings are a nice touch.” Buy: $275
