Anthony Bourdain might have had the single greatest influence on the restaurant industry in recent years. His brash, raw, honest style endeared thousands of restaurant owners, chefs, and eaters alike. And his death only further cemented his legacy as an icon in the food world. As a television host and writer, his personality was on full display; it never felt like Bourdain adopted a “cleaner” persona for camera. Nor did he seem to exaggerate his character to solely push buttons. He was an authentic individual as was evident in his groundbreaking book and beloved TV show. (I’d also highly recommend giving a listen to his episode of the WTF Podcast.)

Now, three years after his death, a documentary of his life is coming to theaters. Directed by filmmaker Morgan Neville, who recently directed Won’t You Be My Neighbor?, Roadrunner is expected to be a “behind-the-scenes look at how an anonymous chef became a world-renowned cultural icon.” The trailer, released yesterday, suggests the movie will focus on Bourdain’s later years and his struggles with life on the road. Interviews with other restauranteurs like David Chang and Eric Ripert documenting his life will also feature in the film.

Roadrunner will be released in cinemas before airing on CNN and streaming on HBO Max, according to Variety. The worldwide premiere for the documentary will be on June 11 at the Tribeca Film Festival.
