Never say never. That’s what Ferrari is effectively telling themselves with the debut of their first SUV, the Purosangue (“poo-roh-SAHNG-weh”). The name means “thoroughbred” in Italian, and it’s less of an SUV and more of a stilted grand touring estate. Hell, Ferrari won’t even call it an SUV. The Purosangue borrows cues from the 296 GTB and the Roma while imbuing it with an FF-like profile, only taller. Suicide doors with power-operated rears, floating wheel arches, and some massive rear haunches give it a purposeful look. The creased and muscular Purosangue is powered by a front-mounted 6.5-liter V12 good for 715 horsepower to all four wheels via an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. It will be super-quick, launching from 0-62 mph in a mere 3.3 seconds. The Purosangue is far less for cargo and spacious rear occupant digs and more about shuttling four people at a very fast pace, but at least there will be cupholders in the back.
