Obscure French brand Facel Vega hasn’t been around since 1964. Its founder, Jean Daninos, owned this grand touring beauty that’s about to head to the auction block. This Facel Vega Facel II prototype is like no other vintage car you might come across because of its unique styling and rarity. The Facel II was built between 1962 and 1964 and marked a glorious return to French coachbuilding. The prominent and ornate front fascia and shortened roof grabbed the attention of none other than Pablo Picasso and Christian Dior. It’s just too bad that only 183 were made before Facel Vega closed their doors. This prototype was built a little bit earlier (1959). The black-on-black car was recently restored to its original glory and includes a 6.27-liter Chrysler Typhoon engine that’s good for a substantial 385 hp. Because of its history, the car will go for much more than production models and could crest a million bucks. RM Sotheby’s will manage the auction on Saturday, May 20.
