Gruppe5 2002

Gruppe5 2002

The BMW 2002 that dropped on the automotive scene in the ‘60s is an icon. The little sporty coupe and sedan essentially ushered in BMW as an enthusiast brand way before they became luxury-minded. Now, Indiana shop Gruppe5 Motorsport has created the ultimate 2002 with body modifications and performance enhancements that equate to the best kind of German mini-muscle that spits out up to 803 horsepower in top trim and a more than adequate 500 horses in “base” guise. Couple that with only about 2,200 lbs, and you have small face-puller of the Teutonic kind. The Dinan-sourced S85 5.0-liter V8 gets more displacement after getting bored out to 5.8-liters or 5.9-liters. Power is routed to the rear wheels via a carbon-fiber driveshaft. The body gets carbon fiber moldings for that racing-look and to handle the wider stance. The structure and cage are strengthened to handle the extra power, and suspension, brakes, and downforce are enhanced, as well. Note the giant carbon fiber wing and ground aero. The sporty and bespoke interior is pure custom, and there’s even proper insulation but not so much that you can’t hear the mellifluous power. Only 300 will be made, and you have to provide a numbers-matching 2002 before it gets gutted and redone into this little beast.
