We’ve never wanted to transform our office into something as bright as the Vegas Strip as much as we do right now. That’s because RM Sotheby’s is set to auction off a collection of classic neon signs that remind us of old highway motels, decaying gas stations, and dive bars cigarette vending machines by the door. Crossing the auction block on June 23–24, 2018, the lot includes dozens of signs, with some costing as little as $2,000. While that might not sound ultra-cheap, these are works of art and relics from a time we often want to revisit, a time when you knew whether a place was open or not from a quarter-mile away. We want to buy all of them. We’ll figure out the electric bill later.
