Bringing concrete into the kitchen sounds like a recipe for disaster (pun very much intended) and, perhaps, a very dry biscuit. Luckily this is not the latest gastronomical craze found in Manhattan’s most avant-garde restaurants but rather the backbone of the kitchen products Culinarium sells. Normally we’d use concrete for outdoor projects like installing a driveway basketball hoop for way too physical games during holiday get-togethers, but Culinarium uses it to produce salt containers, coasters, towel cleats and other kitchen staples. Since they use an advanced mixture (unlike the bags we pick up at the hardware store or co-op) the products come out strong but smooth and resemble more of a ceramic than a concrete item. Plus, because of the way the concrete cures the stuff you pick up will become more durable as time goes by kind of like Mickey Rourke.
