The National Aeronautics and Space Administration might be better known for, well, anything involving space, but the 1974 NASA Graphics Standards Manual by Danne & Blackburn that outlined all things NASA design from logos and stationary to space shuttles and vans is equally impressive. Last year, designers Hamish Smyth and Jesse Reed raised close to a million dollars on Kickstarter so they could reprint the book using scans of Danne’s personal copy. If you missed out on the Kickstarter, now’s your chance to pick up a hardcover copy of your own. With a foreword by Danne, a 6,000+ word essay on NASA culture from the time of the manual by Christopher Bonanos, scans of the original 35mm slide presentation to NASA and The Manager’s Guide to NASA Graphics Standards, this is one book you’ll want to read and display.
