As part of the recent Drawing in Space exhibit at the Des Moines Art Center, artists from all over the world were tapped to create large-scale, site specific installations in the I.M. Pei designed space. That included the artist collective from Vienna and Zagreb known as Numen / For Use that decided to build a huge, interactive display using only clear packing tape, and Tape Des Moines was born. As long as you were willing to take your shoes off, limit your time to five minutes and move in a clockwise direction, you could explore the huge sculptural piece from the inside out. Unfortunately, the months long exhibit at the Des Moines Art Center is already over, so you can’t go see it in person if you happen to be in or around Iowa. With that said, the team at Numen / For Use has done installation pieces like it in places all over the world the past few years, so we expect to see a new one pop up sometime in the relatively near future.
