The NikeLab Payaa is unlike any other shoe we’ve seen come out of Nike, and that’s probably due in no small part to the fact that the shoe is inspired by and named after the payaaqek, a native Alaskan boot. A stretchy, one-piece upper is paired with a strong lacing system for an almost sock-like fit—not unlike what you’d find in a pair of high-end snow boots. The combination midsole/outsole gives you lightweight cushioning, durability, reduced weight and better flexibility, which is everything you want in a pair of shoes. With a profile and styling that can best be described as “technical minimalism,” they’re not hurting in the looks department either. NikeLab’s Payaa is available now in two shades of red, two shades of white, black, and blue.
