It seems just about everybody wants new. New cars, new furniture, new smartphone. The list goes on. And then there are those who find hidden vintage gems that require some TLC and a hell of a lot of work to resurrect. Trevor Gordon is a seeker and rebuilder of the best kind, having found a small, abandoned boat smack in the middle of a nondescript field and in a truly dilapidated state. “Camel Finds Water” is a short documentary of how he brought watercraft back to life to make it seaworthy once more. Gordon manages to make the Camel look just about perfect for its era and as the centerpiece of the documentary. The victory isn’t found in its renewed readiness for the waves of British Columbia but in the journey of its revival. The nearly 9-minute film comes from director, cinematographer, and editor Ian Durkin, who manages to pull off fun, beauty, and originality in the film and manages to tell a great story in the process. Skill, determination, adventure, community, and a crap ton of burritos all emerge in just a handful of minutes.
