When I was around 13 my grandfather handed me his old Buck knife and tells me “every man should have a knife.” Years later I realized that the gift was less about the knife and more about the unsaid sentiment, which is why I cherish it. This also might explain my obsession with knives. I stopped carrying it years ago because of its size but I do still carry a knife…mostly because my grandfather insisted.
