Darren Aronofsky, the man behind some of the greatest mindfuck movies ever made, is coming back to the big screen in September with his latest, Mother!. If this first official trailer is any indication, Mother! is going to rank up there with Pi, Requiem for a Dream, Black Swan and The Fountain in terms of sheer lunacy, because we’ve watched this thing three times and we still don’t have any idea what the hell is going on. The description reads: “A couple’s relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence… riveting psychological thriller about love, devotion and sacrifice.” With a cast that includes Javier Bardem, Jennifer Lawrence, Ed Harris and Michelle Pfeiffer, we’re sure Aronofsky created something truly special that will give us nightmares for weeks. Is Javier Bardem some sort of crazy supernatural cult leader that’s been alive forever? Will anyone make it out alive? Is the house a portal to Hell? You’ll have to wait until Mother! gets released in theaters on September 15 to find out.
