Oris recently debuted a new member of their venerable Big Crown series of wristwatches to coincide with its June 1, 1938 founding date. It’s called the Oris Hölstein Edition 2021, and the 38mm dimensions are in line with the trend towards smaller cases. 2020’s Oris Hölstein Edition measured a healthy 43mm, so the 5mm drop is significant. The 2021 edition retains the signature big crown and the iconic pointer date function with red arrow tip. The matte grey dial and the crisp white numerals keep things minimalist, as does the railroad-style small seconds subdial at the 6 o’clock position. The new in-house Oris caliber 403 mechanical automatic movement has a colossal 120-hour power reserve and can be both hand-wound, as well as by movement of the wrist. Other details include a caseback with an embossed Oris bear, “Hölstein Edition 2020” and the limited-edition number “X/250” engraved on the back. Each watch comes with a quick-release gray leather strap and a cherry wood presentation box.
