Both the VW Golf GTI and the Golf R will be the only remaining hatchbacks from the brand in 2021, but that doesn’t stop VW from making a special Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport that’s even sharper and more adroit in the twisties than the other brothers. Engineers have tweaked just about everything to make it a better performer. The GTI’s 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine has been massaged to deliver 296 horsepower which amounts to 0-62 mph in under six seconds and a top speed of 155 mph. Furthermore, The Clubsport receives an upgraded Vehicle Dynamics Manager that controls the variable-locking front differential, as well as the optional adaptive shocks. Suspension has been lowered, steering is more responsive, and there’s even a “Special” mode specifically for taking on the Nürburgring Nordschleife (the ‘Ring). The look is also more aggressive with a huge honeycomb mesh grille, a big roof spoiler, and huge 18″ or 19″ wheels. The big question remains as to whether we’ll see it on our shores. Fingers crossed.
