What-to-Watch-This-Weekend-Alias-Grace

With cable, Netflix, and internet options, finding the best thing to watch during your downtime is difficult. Instead of flipping through menus all weekend and settling on nothing, turn to What to Watch This Weekend, a series in which we give you our pick for the best new show or movie available.

The beginning of the month is always a weird time for subscription services. Original content, for one reason or another, usually gets released later on and the first week ends up filled with old movies and Season 8 of whatever CBS comedy your parents love. There is one exception this month, however, as Netflix premieres Alias Grace, a series based on the Margaret Atwood piece of historical fiction of the same name. Sarah Gadon plays Grace Marks, a protestant girl arrested for murder in mid-1800s Canada. After sitting in jail for a good period of her life, a man arrives to help pardon her. If you’re a fan of The Handmaid’s Tale, this one should be right up your alley.

Unzip your coat and have some mulled wine on the house—you’ve arrived at your final gifting destination: The Holiday Gift Guide. It’s like your friendly neighborhood one-stop holiday shop, except instead of balsa wood ornaments, ours is packed with thoughtful gifts for everyone on your list. Future heirlooms, small-but-significant stocking stuffers, and gear for getting out there (or staying in)—are all right here. There’s no music playing in the background though, so you’ll just have to hum Bing Crosby while you click around instead.
