If you asked anyone to name the most influential sneaker brand in the world, we’re willing to bet the unanimous answer across an unlimited sample size would be Nike. The Swoosh has been a cultural phenomenon for almost as long as it has been a thing, and Nike wants to chronicle the brand’s design process and future in sustainability with the Nike: Better is Temporary book. This hardback tome measures 12 1/4″ x 9″ and combines 500 color illustrations with stories, insights, knowledge, passion and history from Nike’s remarkable team over the course of 320 pages. It’s equal parts brand history and manual of innovation / inspiration for generations to come. As Nike’s Chief Design Officer, John Hoke, explains, “I fundamentally believe that the central thesis of Nike is ‘The best is temporary at best.” The book deals with everything from industry-defining innovations and globally-recognized products, alongside previously unpublished designs, prototypes and insider stories to create a real behind-the-scenes look at the brand that’s on the feet of everyone, everywhere. Nike: Better is Temporary will be released on December 10th, 2020.
