Mami Wata ‘Afro Surf’ Coffee Table Book
When it comes to the best surf spots in the world, the first areas that come to mind are located in Hawaii, California, Central America, Indonesia and the South Pacific. But honestly, leaving Africa–and its surf culture–out of the mix is a mistake. Mami Wata is looking to change that one African-made piece of surf wear at a time, and with the Mami Wata Afro Surf Coffee Table Book you see here. With more than 19,000 miles of surfable coast that lures visitors every year, there’s more than enough adventure from Jeffreys Bay to Cape Town, and this is the focus of their first book Afro Surf. This unique, 300-page tome explores the unique culture of eighteen coastal countries from Morocco to Mozambique through work from some of Africa’s finest photographers, thinkers, writers and surfers over the course of more than 200 photos, essays, profiles, illustrations and the like. It’s a limited-edition, exploratory book that simultaneously captures and celebrates the surf and related street cultures of Africa–while still giving back to local organizations with profits going  to Waves For Change and Surfers Not Street Children.
