These Original Star Wars Costume Sketches Could Fetch Over $300,000 at Auction

John Mollo was a respected costume designer whose magnum opus was his work on both Star Wars: A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back. He was the man responsible for everything from Vader’s all black wardrobe to Han Solo’s gunslinger attire. Set to hit the block at Bonhams this December is a collection of personal sketchbooks filled with original Star Wars sketches. Tom Mollo, John’s son, said, “This collection is a very personal insight into my father’s creative process. As these wonderful sketches demonstrate, he was a man of boundless imagination, but he never forgot the practical side of costume design—that actors had to be able to move and breathe and speak their lines.” That’s why this is such a fascinating collection. You’re truly getting a glimpse at the creation of the Star Wars universe, one of the most legendary cinematic universes of all time. As a bonus, each book contains other sketches from Mollo, including work for Alien and Stanley Kubrick’s Barry Lyndon. Unsurprisingly, these sketchbooks will not come cheap, with each estimated to fetch around $130,000.
