The Big Apple is one of our favorite places to visit because of its vibrance, energy, and the fact there’s always something to do. But outside of Central Park, there isn’t much in the way of green space or parks. Little Island aims to change that with its conversion of a piece of waterfront property outside Chelsea to a one-of-a-kind piece of property that blends nature and art atop 132 massive planters that rise like flowers out of the water. This almost-open space is an undulating landscape that spans almost 2.5 acres of greenery that will eventually play host to walking paths, wooded areas and a performance space that aims to “bring nature and art into the everyday lives of our neighbors in Chelsea and the West Village.” It’s a unique and one-of-a-kind space that combines all the necessities and our favorite features from parks, amphitheaters, concert spaces, and outdoor venues to create an urban experience that seamlessly blends modern planning with nature like no other venue can.
