Situated in a remote area of Japan’s Hokkaido island, the House in the Forest is a brilliantly beautiful, minimalist house that fits into the landscape perfectly. Elevated just above the forest floor, the timber house is meant to provide a retreat and a harmonious connection with the wooded surroundings. The ten “branches” jut out in seemingly random fashion but work perfectly together to mimic tree branches that focus its occupants on nature while providing privacy. The central spine of the house provides multiple views, as well. The family that resides there can experience nature, and there’s only one rural access road so solitude is almost guaranteed.
