Situated in Australia on an off-grid retreat on an exposed ridge line at a place called High Camp just outside of Melbourne, Australia, this compact house is an off-the-grid retreat with all the creature comforts any normal human needs to survive. This house produces and stores its own power, collects its own rainwater, treats its own waste and interacts with the elements for natural comfort to create a property that overlooks a hill with stunning panoramic views to give you protected access to the best that Australia has to offer. Here’s what Sue and Jim had to say about the project–“We went to Ben with a hand-drawn sketch of a design for a modest weekend retreat to be built high on a hill in country Victoria. After listening to our dreams for the house and visiting the site, Ben came back with a suggestion for a completely different design – one which suited the site and the rugged conditions far better. The result is a beautifully crafted robust 10-square house which takes full advantage of its heroic views but still stands strong and secure against the full force of prevailing winds.” In short, it’s a gorgeous project we want to visit, occupy and hopefully live in at some point.
